Thought leadership  /  Interaction design

Connecting | Trends in UI, interaction & experience design

An 18-minute documentary on the future of interaction design, which I co-produced with Microsoft Design. Thought leaders including Robert Fabricant, Liz Danzico, Blaise Agüera y Arcas and Massimo Banzi on what happens as software reaches into more of the world and the digital and physical start to merge.

The observation

Software was moving out of the screen and into everything else: phones, cars, buildings, objects. As that happened, the discipline that decides how people and technology meet, interaction design, was becoming more important than the hardware it ran on. We wanted to capture where the people shaping that discipline thought it was going.

As software spreads into the physical world, interaction design becomes the thing that connects us.

In their words

The film argues that interaction design will shape the Internet of Things, and that as the digital and physical merge, people and technology could start to behave like a single super organism, one that makes new behaviours possible. As with Briefly, the story comes from the people in it rather than from title cards, so I’d rather you watch it and take away your own view.
